Market analysis:
1. Rapid development of the automotive industry
The automotive industry is one of the pillar industries in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is the earliest Central Asian country to produce automobiles and also the most mature country in the region's automobile industry chain. The cars produced include Chevrolet sedans, Isuzu buses and trucks, MAN trucks, as well as car engines and batteries, with Chevrolet basically monopolizing the passenger car market.
The national car ownership exceeds 4 million.
The automobile manufacturing volume has doubled in recent years. According to the latest data released by the Uzbekistan Statistics Bureau, a total of 418734 cars and 327000 passenger cars were produced in 2023. By 2030, Ukraine plans to increase its domestic passenger car production to 1 million units.
Since the beginning of the year, the import value of automobiles has increased by 2.2 times, reaching 1.56 billion US dollars, while the import value of automobile parts has increased by 16.8%, reaching 1.34 billion US dollars.
In addition, more than 2000 companies in the industry cooperate closely, and the localization rate of components has reached 50%.
2. The automotive market has enormous potential
In 2023, Ukraine will sell 379000 new passenger cars nationwide, a year-on-year increase of 33%. Among them, the number of domestically produced cars in Ukraine exceeded 333000, an increase of 25%; 46000 foreign brand cars,
Increased by 1.4 times.
The most popular car is the Chevrolet Cobalt, followed by Damas and Gentra in third place.
Overall, Uzbekistan is a country with enormous potential in the automotive market, and its automotive industry chain has become increasingly mature. The second-hand car market in Uzbekistan is booming, and the import volume of new energy electric vehicles is also increasing year by year. The automobile market in Uzbekistan has great growth potential in multiple aspects.
3. Central Asia New Energy Vehicle Market Exhibition
Due to the implementation of tax-free policies for new energy electric vehicles in Central Asian countries, the export volume of electric vehicles to the Central Asian market has continued to increase since 2022. It is expected that the import volume of electric vehicles in Central Asian countries will increase by 20% by 2023. The electric vehicle market in Central Asia will also become a battleground for domestic new energy electric vehicle brands and related traders.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are the countries with the highest demand and sales of electric vehicles in Central Asia.
In recent years, China's new energy vehicle industry has developed rapidly and is increasingly recognized by consumers at home and abroad. The relevant person in charge of the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of Commerce introduced that in the first quarter of 2023, China's automobile exports to Central Asian countries reached 500 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 121%, among which new energy vehicles are particularly favored by Central Asian people.
4. Chinese cars win favor
In January 2023, BYD signed a joint venture agreement with UzAuto, the largest automobile manufacturer in Central Asia with a complete automotive industry layout, to establish a joint venture company in Ukraine to produce and sell new energy vehicles. The core components are imported from China, and the surrounding accessories are produced and provided by Ukrainian automotive parts companies. After assembly, in addition to being sold locally, it will also be exported to other Central Asian and CIS markets in the surrounding areas. BYD Auto will organize full cycle production locally and further localize its products.
The prices of new energy vehicles produced in Uzbekistan are relatively lower compared to imported cars, and mass manufacturing and production will also break the monopoly of local car brands, which is more conducive to market competition.
This is the first joint venture of a Chinese electric vehicle giant outside of China. In March 2023, BYD held a brand and product pre-sale conference in Ukraine, releasing three new models. The store also officially opened in March.
