Is it bad to wash a car with just water?
Washing your car with just water isn’t ideal, but it’s better than not washing it at all.
Here are a few points to consider:
-
Dirt and Grime Removal: Water alone may not be effective in removing dirt, grime, and contaminants such as bird droppings, tree sap, or road salt. These substances can damage the paint if left on too long.
-
Scratch: If you only use water and a cloth or sponge, you may inadvertently scratch the paint. Dirt particles may become trapped in the cloth and cause micro-scratches.
-
Water spots: If the water on the surface of the car dries, water spots will remain. The water spots are difficult to remove and may affect the appearance of the car.
-
PROTECT: Regular cleaning with soap will help remove contaminants and may also help maintain the wax or sealant that protects the paint. Using water alone does not provide this benefit.
-
Environmental Considerations: If you are washing your car outdoors, be aware of the direction of flow of water and contaminants. Some areas may have regulations regarding water runoff.
For best results, it is recommended to use automotive-specific soap that is designed to remove dirt and grime without damaging the paint. If you only have water on hand, try to rinse away as much dirt as possible and give it a proper wash if possible.
