Clay Block For Cars
A clay block (or clay bar) is a detailing tool used to remove embedded contaminants from a car's paint, such as tree sap, brake dust, and industrial fallout.
Here are some key points about using a clay block for cars:
-
Preparation: Wash the car thoroughly to remove surface dirt. This helps prevent scratches during the claying process.
-
Lubrication: Use a clay lubricant or a quick detailer to keep the surface slick while you work. This helps the clay glide over the paint without scratching it.
-
Technique: Knead the clay block to form a flat surface. Lightly rub it over the lubricated area in straight lines or back and forth. You should feel it gliding smoothly; if it feels rough, it means it's picking up contaminants.
-
Checking the Clay: After claying a section, inspect the clay. If it looks dirty, knead it to expose a clean surface. Replace it if it becomes too dirty.
-
Post-Clay Treatment: After claying, wash the car again to remove any clay residue and then apply a wax or sealant to protect the paint.
Claying is a great way to prepare your car's surface for waxing or polishing, especially if you're dealing with a lot of contaminants.
